The Brandywine School District honored Howard Laws as the district's educator support professional of the year for 2025, citing his long service, mentorship and role supporting the SITE transition and employment program.
Dalithia McIntyre, director of human resources, introduced Laws and invited building winners to join her in celebrating educator-support-professional awardees. Heather Austin, the principal who spoke during the presentation, said Laws "continuously impresses me with his unwavering dedication and commitment to supporting our educators, students, families, and their broader community." Austin highlighted Laws's work with the district's SITE program, which she described as supporting young adults ages 18 to 22 with moderate to severe disabilities, and noted his role mentoring students in vocational tasks such as mail runs and graphics work.
A short video and an on-stage appearance gave Laws an opportunity to describe his work. Laws said he has been a custodian in the district since 2013 and began handling district mail in 2017. He described coordinating with the graphics department and SITE students so interns learn practical skills—"They could pick up mail, deliver mail, and I could pick them and show them how to do the poster system," he said. Laws called the recognition an "awesome feeling" and credited colleagues and program staff.
The board's recognition was ceremonial; no policy action accompanied the award.
