Wesley asked the board for more accessible information about the district's middle‑school options for parents who are new to the district, saying she wanted clearer descriptions of what each middle school offers so families can make informed choices.
Board members responded that staff would follow up with Wesley and that someone from administration would reach out to discuss middle‑school placement and program differences.
Anita Bruce, founder of Omni Youth Circle of Newcastle, described her proposed youth enrichment program, which she said will launch as a one‑day pilot on Sept. 18 at First Baptist Church and could expand if successful. Bruce said the program will provide life skills, art, job‑application help, computer access, tutoring, college‑application assistance, a small library and volunteer opportunities. She asked for district assistance in connecting with staff after a prior meeting request had been delayed because of an AmeriCorps/DSS grant application that, she said, limited state affiliations during the grant process.
School leaders told Bruce that administration would connect her with relevant staff and accepted a flyer so the district can provide follow‑up contact information. Bruce also announced a 2K walk for youth on Oct. 11 at Glasgow Park and left contact materials with the board.
No formal board action was taken on the public‑comment items; staff said they would follow up with individual commenters.
