Board hears capital referendum implementation update; oversight committee seeks more volunteers

Board members on Jan. 14 received an update on implementation and monitoring related to the capital referendum the district approved in February (referenced in board remarks). Director of Operations Drew Moffitt and facilities supervisor Steve Johnson were present to answer questions about projects and timelines.

The district said it will provide quarterly public updates with four primary components: education about capital terminology and timelines, monthly monitoring reports for a community and employee oversight group, board updates, and a static status page on the district website where the public can view project progress. "We have a group of community members and employees who get a monthly status report from the operations department," the chair said, noting the oversight committee met last week.

Members on the oversight committee currently include parents and staff; the district invited additional volunteers, asking for more parents and educators to apply. "If someone's looking to get involved, they can find it on our district website or reach out to Andrew Moffitt, director of operations, and we can get you connected with the application," a board member said.

The board noted work is under way at Leech and other referendum schools; the construction funding and related state appropriations are included in district documents but handled on separate construction budgets and therefore not folded into the operating budget growth shown in the FY25 final budget presentation.

No formal vote was required on the update; staff and the oversight committee will continue monthly reporting to the board and publish updates for the public.
