Jones Elementary students present 'Leader in Me' and receive Lighthouse recognition

Jones Elementary School received Lighthouse status in the Leader in Me program and four student members of the school’s Student Lighthouse Team presented to the Christina School District Board on May 6 about how the program has impacted their school.
Board members recognized Jones for earning Lighthouse designation in June 2024, an honor the district said is given to schools that demonstrate sustained implementation of the Leader in Me process and the program’s seven habits. The board thanked the school’s principal, counselor and social worker by name during the recognition.
Four fifth‑grade students from Jones — identified on the record as Gianna Rivera (secretary of the student lighthouse team), Levi Seth, Destiny Cariocchi (student lighthouse team president) and Ari Porter — each described how the program’s seven habits (be proactive; begin with the end in mind; put first things first; think win‑win; seek first to understand, then to be understood; synergize; and sharpen the saw) help them in school and prepare them for the future. Gianna Rivera said the student lighthouse team met weekly "to brainstorm ideas to promote positivity, plan events, and serve as role models for our peers." Levi Seth explained how habits such as setting goals and prioritizing tasks support academic engagement, and Destiny Cariocchi described improved public speaking and readiness for future challenges.
The board invited the students and staff forward for photographs and congratulated Jones Elementary for the recognition. The presentations were made during the meeting’s honor roll segment; no board action was required.
