Board approves annual maintenance‑repair plan; district updates Leech School, athletic complex and construction contracting

Board member Miss Smith moved approval of the maintenance‑repair plan, with Mister Carlson seconding; the board voted by voice and the motion carried.
Facilities staff provided a quarterly "We Improve" update that covered project planning and contract activity. Staff said Becker Morgan has an AIA contract for schematic design work on the Wheaton/Penn athletic complex and associated security enhancements. The district is also moving forward on architect assignments and planning for Eisenberg, Bedford and Penn (roofing) projects; RD Architects is involved on the Penn roofing work. Staff said AIA contracts for those projects are expected to be finalized and presented at the May board meeting.
District staff said they will advertise a request for proposals for construction‑management services in the coming days; staff described the construction manager role as oversight of larger projects (including the Leech School build) to help keep schedules and budgets on track.
On the Leech School project, staff said final construction plans are with the state for review and that one remaining near‑term issue is a required sewer easement and review because a pump house serving the site is on property owned by Dot Foods. Staff said Dot Foods' legal review of easement language has been one of several permit‑ and third‑party review items that affected the project's schedule.
Facilities leaders told the board it has broadened community oversight on construction by adding two parent/community members to the construction review committee and that the committee will continue bimonthly meetings.
The presentation included no new board action beyond approval of the maintenance‑repair plan. Staff said they expect additional AIA contracts and the construction management solicitation to be brought to the board for formal action at a future meeting.
