Teachers report early progress on I Ready classroom mathematics rollout

District curriculum staff and elementary teachers updated the board on the rollout of the I Ready classroom mathematics curriculum, describing a teacher-driven implementation, professional development, materials procurement and early classroom evidence of student engagement.

Aaron Selakman and elementary math staff said the adoption work was teacher led. The district established multiple subcommittees (professional learning, educator support and technology, materials and supplies) and developed local pacing guides based on I Ready recommendations but with flexible time built into the first implementation year. Staff reported that a fall survey found most teachers were within a week of the recommended pacing and that follow-up surveys are planned for spring to adjust pacing for next year.

Teachers and teacher leaders reported classroom-level supports and resources: monthly grade-level professional development, an educator FAQ, a district-wide inventory of manipulatives, and creation and distribution of master lesson-packet materials. One teacher reported 600 K-5 lesson master packets were prepared for professional learning; another noted vocabulary cards in English and Spanish and a list of non-manipulative materials schools can use immediately. District leaders said they have completed 10 elementary walkthroughs with more scheduled.

Teachers cited I Ready diagnostic and prerequisite reports as useful for identifying prerequisite gaps and for personalizing instruction during MTSS/small-group time. Staff said the program gives teachers access to materials across K-8, enabling teachers to pull backward or forward lessons when preteaching or providing enrichment is needed.

Ending: District staff said they will collect end-of-year implementation data and return to the board with results; they framed the current year as a learning year with expected refinement over the summer and into year two.
