Lancaster appoints Greg Hare as Williams Street principal; board praises leadership record

The Lancaster Central School District Board of Education voted to appoint Greg Hare as principal of Williams Street School, with board members and administrators praising his record as assistant principal and classroom teacher.

During the meeting administrators described Hare’s experience leading the school through a reconfiguration and expanding advanced math access. Dr. Marcioli, speaking in support of the recommendation, said Hare “brings a very calm demeanor” and “is thoughtful in his approach” and cited the selection committee’s confidence that Hare would continue building on the prior principal’s work. Hare told the board he is “incredibly honored and excited for this opportunity” and pledged to continue serving Lancaster students and families.

Why it matters: Williams Street serves a large elementary/middle population in the district; several administrators noted the scale and complexity of the building and said committee members believed Hare was the right fit to maintain continuity and pursue improvement.

The personnel appointment was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Board members who spoke described specific examples of Hare’s leadership, including work on professional development schedules and student-focused initiatives.
