Danny Lou Schuler, a member of the Minnesota Public Health Corps (an AmeriCorps program), spoke during public comment to thank Carver County Public Health staff and describe his service at the department.
Schuler said the placement gave him hands-on public-health experience creating outreach materials and supporting clinics and food distribution events. "I could have taken any path ... but I chose AmeriCorps because I truly believe addressing health needs starts local and through community outreach and collaboration," Schuler said.
He said the position strengthened his commitment to a public-health career and thanked his supervisor, Sarah Prescher, county public-health leadership and staff. He also told the board that his time with AmeriCorps will be shortened because "me and others have been told we do not align with federal priorities," a comment he said as part of a longer expression of gratitude and concern.
Chair Workman responded with a general observation about federal budget choices and thanked Schuler for his service. The board did not take formal action on the comment; Schuler's remarks were received during the public comment period.
