Carver County proclaims May 2025 National Mental Health Awareness Month

The Carver County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution proclaiming May 2025 as National Mental Health Awareness Month.

A staff member from the county health and human services department described the county's behavioral health services and the proclamation's focus on safety and community support. The staff member listed local programs the county provides, including outpatient therapy, school-linked mental health, Anika adolescent day treatment, a mobile crisis response team, adult and children's case management and coordination of services with corrections and the sheriff's office.

"This year's theme is safety, highlighting the importance of creating safe spaces for open conversations, support, and recovery," the staff member said while asking the board to approve the proclamation.

Commissioners commended county mental-health staff and the campaign to build "communities of belonging." Commissioner Uterman, who moved approval, said the county has taken steps to connect residents and move services upstream. Commissioner Anderson seconded the motion. The board approved the proclamation by voice vote with no recorded opposition.

The proclamation cites national context about prevalence of mental illness and the role of early identification and treatment. Commissioners said they want ongoing, robust mental-health planning and noted the county's existing initiatives aimed at prevention and community connection.
