Sussex County approves $1.9 million purchase order for Inland Bay elevated storage tank

Sussex County Council on March 4 approved a purchase order to Pittsburgh Tank and Tower Group for $1,903,250 to supply a treated effluent elevated storage tank for the Inland Bay loop project.
County Engineer described the tank as a critical component of the loop that distributes treated water to users and permitted spray sites. The tank will include an internal circulation pump and a rechlorination system intended to maintain compliance during periods of low use. The engineering department said five manufacturers were contacted, three proposals were received and the county recommended the Pittsburgh Tank and Tower Group bid.
Finance staff and council discussed procurement strategy: several small electrical and aeration packages will be purchased directly (purchase order) rather than through prime contractor change orders to avoid markups. Council also discussed an optional allowance up to $10,000 for a logo on the tank; during the vote members indicated the purchase should proceed “without the logo.” The county said the project is one of three ARPA-funded projects and that drawdowns will be managed within ARPA timelines.
Council action: motion to approve the purchase order carried on a recorded vote. Engineering was instructed to administratively proceed with remaining purchase orders and prepare contracting and installation schedules.
