Sussex County Council approved a bid award to Zone Striping Incorporated of Glassboro, New Jersey, in the amount of $78,320.10 for restriping Runway 4/22, Runway 5/23 and Taxiway Delta at the Delaware Coastal Airport.
County staff said Zone Striping was the low bidder at a March 19 bid opening and that the county had budgeted $100,000 for the work. The contractor’s scope includes removal of contaminated existing markings, application of new paint and reflective glass beads, and related preparatory work. Staff said Zone Striping has prior experience at nearby airports and previously restriped one of the county’s runways in 2019.
A council member asked why Zone Striping’s price was lower than others; staff responded that the company specializes in airport restriping and travels nationally to perform similar work. Council moved and seconded the bid award and recorded yes votes; the motion carried.
The meeting record did not provide the contract start date, the duration of work, or warranty terms on the restriping work.
