District 25 CEC discusses award ceremony, elections and scheduling; minutes approved

Minutes and meeting motions: The council moved and seconded a motion to approve the minutes of a prior session and proceeded with the agenda. Later at the calendar meeting the council recorded a formal adjournment of the calendar session at 8:18 p.m., after which members reconvened a business meeting.
Elections: Council members noted that CEC election season was under way. Members said parents may apply to run for a seat through Feb. 16; the council reported 12 applicants for 10 available seats in District 25 and reminded parents that borough president appointees are another option. The council encouraged parents to apply and to participate in candidate forums and elections scheduled after the application period.
Award ceremony logistics: Members discussed choices for awards (certificates, medals, pens and other vendor‑supplied items) and the need to order items through DOE‑approved vendors before March to comply with budget and procurement timelines. The council asked incoming staff member Maribel (start date Feb. 18) to help complete orders and noted that vendors available through DOE procurement should be used.
Joe Kessler Award nominees: Members reviewed possible honorees for the Joe Kessler community service award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate community building and service; names discussed included Esther and Joanna (both long‑time community volunteers). The council asked members to think about nominees and return with recommendations at the next meeting.
Budget and event planning: The council asked the treasurer to provide a routine report at future meetings. Members also agreed to support the district’s March 15 Wellness Day with a CEC table and possible giveaways (stress balls, water, healthy snack samples), and to finalize any orders quickly because of the event timeline.
Ending: The council closed routine business, reminded members to bring signed forms to staff and urged members to maintain quorum for the next meeting.
