Oxford Elementary site work underway; architects report retention basin and sinkholes addressed

“A retention area is where stormwater will go and slow down its rate of flow before it leaves the site,” Thomas said, explaining the basin near an existing site depression. He said the school design remains a 600-student plan with a bus lane, parent pickup, a service dock and roughly 270 parking spaces.
Thomas showed renderings of the building and site, explained that pre-construction work and shop-drawing review are underway and said the contractor had begun moving topsoil and operating heavy equipment. He reported encountering “a couple of sinkholes” — one near the center of the building footprint — and said crews will excavate and fill those with rock filter material and monitor them as construction continues.
The architect confirmed contracts are signed and a pre-construction meeting was held on the 14th; he said erosion control measures are in place and that some trees had been removed by the property owner to clear the site.
Ending: Thomas said the work is progressing on a compressed schedule and invited questions; no board action on the project was recorded at the time of the report.
