Lexington Public Library presents expanded services and partnerships with Fayette County Public Schools

Kelly Parmley, director of education at the Lexington Public Library (LPL), updated the board on library services and partnerships that support FCPS students and families.
Parmley described six library locations, including the recently opened Marksbury Family Branch (March 2024) in Cardinal Valley, and highlighted free programs aligned to student needs. LPL after-school drop-in programming serves ages 5–12 at selected branches and provides snacks through a partnership with God’s Pantry. Parmley said the library served 6,141 lunches and snacks in June–July of the previous summer and will add a fourth summer-feeding location this coming summer.
Parmley reviewed digital resources and supports: student-success library cards distributed at enrollment, the Brainfuse live-tutoring service, Learning Express Library (free ACT/SAT and college-prep practice), Mango Languages and a book-a-librarian service for individualized help. She also described maker spaces (Eastside and Marksbury), a Cloyebour Foundation STEAM lab and a digital studio for filmmaking and audio work.
A new “teacher time” pilot will reserve maker-space hours for teachers and staff during the summer so educators can create classroom materials at no cost. Parmley and FCPS staff said the library and district will continue to coordinate outreach so families know about available services.
Board members thanked the library for long-standing collaboration and asked library staff to help promote resources through district channels. Miranda Scully, FCPS family and community engagement director, and other district staff pledged ongoing coordination.
