Legislators press County Executive's office for update on negotiations with Chiefs, Royals; staff cite limitations

A legislator asked, "What is the status of the negotiations with the Chiefs and the Royals at the moment?" Caleb Clifford of the County Executive's Office told the legislature he had no update and said he could provide the same statement the County Executive issued previously but did not have it available at the meeting. "I don't have any update in regards to the negotiations. I can provide you with the same statement that the County Executive before in regards to those negotiations," Clifford said.
When asked whether anyone in the administration was bound by a nondisclosure agreement, Clifford said he could not discuss whether an NDA exists. Later in the exchange, Caleb Clyburn (identified on the record as County Executive's Office) said the office "would be happy in a closed session to discuss the status, but I cannot comment on whether or not there's an NDA." He added that staff would provide the County Executive's public statement to legislators' offices.
Legislators also asked about the County Executive's physical location at the start of the meeting; staff said they were unsure whether he was in the building or off-site in meetings. No closed-session motion was made at that meeting and no further detail about the negotiations or any NDAs was disclosed on the public record during the March 6 session.
The legislature's next meeting was announced as March 10 at 3 p.m. at the Eastern Jackson County Courthouse; staff said they would provide the previously issued County Executive statement to legislators upon request.
