District 25 leaders adopt updated parent engagement policy through 2027

The policy review focused on clarifying parent coordinators' responsibilities and how the district shares academic and social-emotional information with families. Doctor Mike said the group had ‘‘come to consensus on the adoption adopting the parent engagement policy through 2027.’’ The team agreed the policy will be translated and posted on the district website so families can access it in multiple languages.
Members spent several meeting segments reading the revised text and suggested small edits to language about parent coordinators. Parent leaders and coordinators pressed for wording that makes clear parent coordinators are responsible for sharing information and connecting families to resources, not for delivering academic instruction. Monique, a parent leader, expressed concern that the phrase ‘‘turnkey academics’’ could be read to expect parent coordinators to provide instruction; Jeanette and others proposed replacing that phrasing with language such as ‘‘share information’’ and ‘‘coordinate school workshops and access to resources.’’ Doctor Mike and Gus confirmed the suggested wording change would be made before final posting and translation.
The team also confirmed that once the policy is finalized it will be distributed districtwide and translated into the district’s required languages. Gus noted the standard follow-up is to translate and publish the policy on the district website and make it available through school offices.
The DLT recorded no formal roll-call vote; members indicated consensus during the meeting and the chair announced adoption. The policy will remain in effect through 2027 unless further changes are approved.
The district plans to incorporate the policy into the DCEP (District Comprehensive Education Plan) and to follow up with clarifying materials for parent coordinators and schools.
Implementation and follow-up tasks include finalizing the wording changes, translating the policy, publishing it on the district website, and sharing implementation guidance with parent coordinators and principals.
