District 25 announced a wellness day on March 15 that will gather sports, mental-health and community partners to provide social-emotional learning and physical-wellness activities for families and students.
The event will be held at the Commonpoint Queens site adjacent to Bell Academy and PS/IS 169; district staff said setup will begin at 9:30 a.m. and that a registration form will be shared with families to estimate attendance. The event is a partnership between the district and the Community Education Council and is intended as a kickoff for an ongoing district conversation about wellness.
Partners listed by the DLT include Commonpoint Queens, NYC Football Club, representatives from the New York Islanders and the New York Mets, USA Baseball, the USTA, lacrosse organizations, a Taekwondo group, the 109th Precinct, the Office of School Food and a range of youth‑service groups such as Brave (Buddha Booth), Kendra Scott, Dial a Teacher, Slow Mo Institute (slime activity), YWCA, New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center, Fresh Air Fund and the Korean Community Center. The district said the Office of School Food will offer tastings and demonstrations of healthy options.
District leaders framed the event as part of Respect for All and civics-for-all activities: it will include SEL lessons (the MindUp program), mental‑health resources and physical-activity opportunities for students and families. Staff asked DLT members to help promote the registration and encouraged principals to support student participation. The CEC and parent groups indicated they will provide volunteers and giveaways.
Why it matters: the wellness day channels district SEL and health priorities into an in-person, family-facing event, pairing school staff with community groups to give families access to mental-health resources, physical activities and nutrition information.
Less-critical details: the district will continue to share logistics with schools, and DLT members asked for volunteer and outreach lists once registration opens.
