A District 25 representative updated the President's Council on Community Education Council (CEC) election logistics and the NYC School Survey timeline.
The CEC candidate application deadline was extended to Thursday, Feb. 27, the council reported. Candidate forums will be held March 17 during the President's Council meeting. Voting is scheduled for spring, with the district encouraging parents to create or verify NIXSA accounts to participate. The presenter said there were at least 26 District 25 applicants as of the prior week's report and that number had grown since then.
The presenter reviewed the citywide applicant numbers and stressed the low turnout in the prior year's CEC vote: "Out from 24,000, we only have 1,500 parents voting for the CEC candidates," she said, and urged greater participation this year.
Officials gave three submission options for the NYC School Survey: return by prepaid envelope, use a parent's NIXSA account, or visit nycschoolsurvey.org and enter the child's nine-digit OSIS number preceded by a lowercase "f." The survey period runs now through April 4, the presenter said.
The council also discussed election preparations for local executive-board nominations and reminded PTA groups that nominations committees (three to five members) should be formed by April to prepare for May elections. A council member noted that hybrid elections are prohibited under the chancellor's regulations cited in the meeting.
District calendar reminders included a DPACC meeting on Feb. 26 and a CEC meeting on March 5; the presenter said CEC members must attend in person to establish quorum though a hybrid listen-only link will be available for others.
