District 25 parent and student leaders reported large attendance at recent college and youth empowerment events and highlighted early outreach to younger students.
Sharnette, President’s Council representative, said a college fair at Richmond Hill High School drew about 480 families with 40 college tables and multiple admissions counselors, and that the event included application workshops and scholarship information. Organizers intentionally invited out‑of‑state and private institutions to give families exposure beyond local SUNY/CUNY options. Student volunteers received community‑service credit for participation.
Eduardo Duarte, Queens North high schools representative, also reported on a youth empowerment conference held at Queens College and said student photographers and videographers captured the event for later posting. Student participants described the conference as an opportunity to “talk about the future” and civic engagement.
Why it matters: District leaders said early exposure to college information (middle and even seventh‑ and eighth‑grade families attended) helps students and families prepare for application timelines and postsecondary planning. DLT members discussed scaling similar events in District 25 K–8 contexts.
Ending: Organizers said they will plan for another fair (proposed for October to align with early action timelines) and welcomed district support and potential hosting at larger district facilities to expand capacity.
