Devin Daley, the district's business administrator, told the board the Amelia boiler is likely the original unit from 1999 and is approaching a 25-year replacement window. He said the replacement is listed in next year's HVAC project schedule but that because the expected cost exceeds the district's $50,000 threshold it was brought to the board for information.
On equipment, Daley said the district's mini excavator failed while tearing down a portable at Dixon and that the 20-year-old machine has been patched repeatedly. He said renting a replacement runs about $2,600 per week and that the procurement motion on the business agenda authorizes a purchase of up to $71,000 because of state purchasing rules. Daley explained the lower bid is on the state contract vendor but rules would ordinarily require a sealed bid for purchases above $50,000; the district is seeking state approval to accept the lower state-contract price to avoid additional bidding and delay.
Board members asked about age and schedule: a board member asked whether the Amelia boiler is original; Daley said it likely is. Board members also asked for additional procurement detail and were told formal approval will occur in the business meeting later that night.
