Students, YAC and JA BizTown highlighted as part of city–school partnership

Brooke (district staff) and Robbie Hammond noted the district pays service credits to the Northwest Regional Education Service District so every fifth grader can attend JA BizTown and juniors enrolled in business and marketing pathways can attend the flip site. Several city and district speakers praised JA BizTown as a career‑exposure program and thanked councilors for approving the downtown site and related land use changes.
Robbie Hammond and city staff also described the Youth Advisory Council’s recent trip to the National League of Cities conference in Washington, D.C. Students summarized three takeaways: networking with elected officials and youth from other cities, attending general sessions on housing and infrastructure, and participating in youth workshops. Student representatives and councilors said the trip was “life changing” and helps build leadership and career connections.
City staff said the city plans roughly 22 internships this year across departments and that the YAC has sent more than 200 students through its program since 2005. Councilors and staff asked for continued support and said they were proud of students serving as representatives on the school board and participating in local policymaking.
