District recognizes students, staff and program achievements at April meeting

Superintendent Dr. Denise Bartlett opened the April 8 Catalina Foothills Unified School District Governing Board meeting by highlighting student and staff achievements across the district.
Highlights Bartlett named include two Catalina Foothills High School students, William Jacobson and Anara Smith, selected for the University of Arizona Bio5 Institute Keyes Research internship; numerous Career and Technical Education (CTE) awards in early childhood competitions (names and medal placements were listed in the packet); band and choir superior ratings and festival invitations; and 63 SARSEF projects recognized across district schools with 16 first‑place and multiple other awards.
Bartlett also noted district staff recognitions: longtime band director Renee Shane Boyd named a finalist for an exemplary educator award during teacher‑appreciation events in May; two students selected for the StarTalk Chinese Language Program at the University of Arizona; and FBLA and computer science club successes including students qualifying for national competition in mobile app development and data analysis.
Why it matters The recognitions show district curricular strengths in STEM, performing arts and CTE programs and the superintendent said programs and staff contribute to student opportunities and district reputation.
Ending Bartlett said the complete list of names and projects appears in the board packet and congratulated students and staff for their achievements.
