CFB ISD details campus consolidation logistics, staff placements and student supports

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD presented a detailed consolidation update May 1, saying district teams have completed staff placements and are executing packing, inventory and family outreach for four consolidated campuses ahead of the 2025–26 school year.

District student-services executive Joe Gillen told the board, “Our student services enrollment for the district is up 4%,” and described popup registration events at the four consolidated campuses and a FastPass enrollment incentive for families who register by May 9.

The update outlined operational steps covering communications, technology, facilities, curriculum and human resources. Chief Communications Officer Karen Rodriguez said the district provided scripts, templates and campus web updates to help principals and staff communicate with families. Technology staff described collecting and redistributing classroom electronics and reissuing student devices where required. Operations staff said warehouse inventory and physical moves will occur in June–July, and materials should be available in receiving classrooms by July 28.

Human Resources reported placements for staff members affected by consolidation. HR Director Doctor Smoskis said the district had notified and placed every impacted employee as of May 1, noting one late placement that was finalized that afternoon. HR gave counts for the elementary consolidation cohort: 99 teachers from the affected campuses, 31 paraprofessionals, 3 nurses, 3 counselors and 9 clerical staff. Of those teachers, 32 were reassigned because programs moved (pre-K, bilingual, LEAP), and 55 followed rezoned students to new campuses. The district also provided a breakdown of staff departures (retirements, resignations and transfers) and said a districtwide job fair is scheduled for June 5.

Operations and facilities staff said they delivered an initial allotment of packing supplies based on 10 boxes per staff member and will provide more if needed. They reported more than 5,500 district items inventoried so far for possible reuse, warehousing or redistribution. Transportation staff said routing adjustments are expected and that updated bus routes will be published by July 15; they also said the district is working with the city on relocating crossing guards near some transfer points as an added precaution.

District leaders described student-centered decisions taken in the transition: priority to minimize repeat moves (students moved last year were generally not rezoned again), targeted pop-up registration and a dedicated family inquiry email (enrollcfbisd@edu). HR said teachers who must set up classrooms at new campuses will be granted a compensated work day to support transition and classroom setup.

Board members asked about classroom materials and personal teacher items; district leaders said instructional materials purchased by the district will be inventoried and moved by facilities and curriculum staff, while personal items remain the teacher’s responsibility and may be moved in teacher-packed boxes. The district said campus farewell and welcome events and additional family information nights are scheduled in May to help families and staff prepare.

The board did not take a separate recorded vote on consolidation during the May 1 meeting; staff described operational decisions and reported completed notifications and planned next steps.
