The Yonkers City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday to approve two settlement resolutions totaling $195,000 to resolve personal-injury claims against the city.
The first resolution authorized a $50,000 settlement in the case of Robert Kanowski v. City of Yonkers, related to alleged personal injuries sustained in a construction accident at Cross Hill Academy on Sept. 8, 2021. Council President Collins Bellamy opened the floor for discussion and, after no members spoke, directed the deputy clerk to call the vote. The deputy clerk recorded the resolution as adopted, 7-0. The item was introduced by the city administration and was discussed at the May 6 rules meeting before being placed on the council agenda.
The council also approved a $145,000 settlement for Jorge Melo, Veronica Melo, Marina Suarez and Angela Suarez against the City of Yonkers. The deputy clerk read the resolution into the record, the council opened the floor for discussion, heard none and adopted the measure, 7-0.
No public commentators addressed either resolution during the meeting, and no council member statements or questions about the settlements were recorded in the transcript. The resolutions were recorded as adopted by roll call with a 7-0 tally.
The council recessed after finishing the agenda items for the evening.
