Yonkers City Council adopts grant amendments, intermunicipal agreements and proclamations in unanimous votes

The Yonkers City Council adopted 11 agenda items by unanimous roll call votes during its Jan. 28, 2025 stated meeting, approving grant budget amendments, intermunicipal agreements and a series of proclamations.
Council President Collins Bellamy opened the meeting and the council approved minutes from the Jan. 14, 2025 meeting on a motion by Majority Leader Rubo. The council then moved through the agenda and approved each item, with the deputy clerk recording votes of 7-0 on each measure.
Key adopted items included: - A special ordinance to amend the City of Yonkers grant budget to accept $268,607 for the Wellness and Nutrition Program/Nutrition Services Incentive Program (NSIP) (item 1). Council discussion included a question about a discrepancy in the budget amendment figures; city staff agreed to provide a detailed explanation before the next meeting. - Acceptance of a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Public Safety Program grant for $100,000 and amendment of the grant budget (item 2). - Acceptance of grant funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for $712,500 to amend the 2024–25 grant budget (item 3). - A resolution seeking lead agency status for actions related to the South Broadway rehabilitation project (item 4). - Intermunicipal (IMA) agreements with Westchester County to accept the NSIP contract for $268,607 (item 5). - An agreement with the Town of Greenberg related to extension of drainage systems on Edgemont Road (item 6). - Resolutions proclaiming Black History Month (item 7), National Heart Month (item 8), National Wear Red Day/Go Red Day (item 9), World Cancer Day (item 10) and recognizing Dominican Heritage Month (item 11). - An addendum resolution to honorarily rename a portion of Rose Hill Terrace between Lewis Street and the dead end as Detective Sergeant Frank Waldino Way (added to the agenda and adopted as item 11b).
During consideration of item 1, Councilman Marante raised a specific question about a mismatch between figures shown in different pages of the meeting materials. City staff member Matt Galligan said the smaller amendment figure was correct and agreed to provide the council a detailed explanation. Galligan told the council, “I will guarantee that I will get you that answer by tomorrow.”
All formal votes recorded on the deputy clerk’s roll call were 7-0 in favor. No motions failed or were tabled.
The council closed the meeting after adding the street-renaming resolution to the agenda and adopting it by the same unanimous vote tally.
