The City of White Plains Planning Board on Feb. 18 agreed to draft a letter to the Common Council stating it has no objection to a one-year extension for the 52 North Broadway planned residential development, a project the applicant described as roughly 411 housing units on a 16-acre site with 428 parking spaces and a mix of housing types.
Neil Alexander, a partner at the applicant's law firm, said the project was approved by the Common Council on Feb. 5 of the previous year and that the primary reason for seeking an extension was financing amid difficult capital markets. "There's no change in circumstances, no change in the project. And, you know, we hope to move forward, but, you know, we're dealing with an interesting capital market situation," Alexander told the board.
Board members asked clarifying questions about financing; the applicant confirmed financing remains the central challenge. The board voted to draft an advisory letter to the Common Council indicating no objection to the requested extension. The planning board’s action is advisory; the Common Council retains final authority to grant any extension.
