The project will feature framed photographs depicting historical and contemporary scenes of Poughkeepsie; commissioners said they expect eight to 12 framed images to be displayed and rotated on an annual basis. "We did unanimously in our prior year vote to push this project forward and I believe we also voted, we did vote for Ananje to be the curator," a commissioner said, noting the curator's local ties.
Commissioners described the theme as rooted in Poughkeepsie's history and working-class heritage, with possible subjects including Main Street in earlier eras and riverfront workers. Commission leadership said they will circulate Benjamin's images to commissioners for review prior to installation.
There was no formal motion or funding request during the May 15 discussion; members said they expect logistics and framing to be handled through the commission's ongoing project work and that the installation will provide a visible civic presence for local photography and historical images.
