'PAINT' community event set for May 25 with live painting, vendors and children’s canvases

Johnson said more than 25 artists had registered to display work or perform and that organizers planned to provide more than 100 canvases for children and adults to paint live. "We have over 25 artists who have registered to showcase their art," Johnson said. He also said three sponsors — who asked to remain anonymous — would supply additional canvases, paints and brushes, and that Sunday's Burgers will provide food. Organizers also expect live music, two bands, performers and a videographer to record the event for future promotion.
Johnson said the event's purpose is to showcase local artists and provide networking opportunities; the event acronym stands for "Poughkeepsie Artists Inspiring Networking Together." He said a small website and promotional materials, including shirts and flyers, would be available to encourage attendance. If it rains, Johnson said the Academy offers indoor space and the event would continue inside.
Commissioners asked logistical questions about outreach and publicity. Commissioner Carrie Decker and others said they would distribute flyers at the upcoming MayFest and that commission members would staff an information table at the event. No formal approvals or budget votes were requested or taken during the May 15 meeting.
Organizers encouraged commissioners and the public to attend and volunteer. The commission agreed to promote the event informally through its channels; organizers also offered to provide digital flyers and a QR code linking to registration and event information.
