The Poughkeepsie Board of Contract and Supply voted May 7 to award the Garden and Washington Street replacement contract to Veil Construction for $20,260,000, the board said during its regular meeting.
Assistant City Engineer Joe Chenier told the board that bids were opened in March and that the New York State Department of Transportation local project unit had given concurrence that day. “So with that being said, I'm gonna recommend award to the low bidder Veil Construction for $20,260,000,” Chenier said.
The board member who moved the award noted the winning bid was about $4 million lower than the other bid received; a second was recorded and members answered “aye” on the voice vote to approve the award. The agenda did not include a notice to proceed under new business, and staff did not issue one at the meeting.
Bids had been solicited and opened in March; the NYSDOT concurrence is recorded in the meeting as the basis for moving forward with the low bidder recommendation. The board did not discuss a specific contract start date during the public session.
Less critical: the board conducted other contract-business items in the meeting and later moved into an executive session on vendor performance. No further timeline for the Garden and Washington Street work was given on the record.
