Serena Dominguez of Nature's Impact presented a proposal Tuesday for a youth-created sculpture installation at Malcolm X Park and described a three-year placement and public celebration if the council grants permission.
"We are proposing a 3 year term," Dominguez told the council, saying the pieces are metal and fiberglass and that her group consulted with the mayor and the Department of Public Works on siting and installation details. She said the program engaged more than 100 Poughkeepsie students and partnered with Little Water Prep, Vassar College and Scenic Hudson.
Council members asked about timing, durability and recruitment of youth participants; Dominguez said the program and sculptures were completed in 2024 and the proposal seeks permission to install the work and to host a community day for the students who created the pieces. Multiple council members voiced support and asked the non‑profit to coordinate final siting with DPW.
