Council members used the March 11 work session to note several community engagement opportunities and campus tours for council members.
Janine and other council members discussed a tentative demonstration-garden visit and watershed tour. Staff described a possible demonstration-garden visit and a watershed tour that has been offered previously; the demonstration garden visit was tentatively scheduled for April 15 at 2:30 p.m. as a possible date but the council and staff noted scheduling constraints because of upcoming budget work. Staff also said the watershed tour varies year to year and had previously included a bus trip and site visits within the watershed.
Council members discussed a Shadow Valley STEM night scheduled for “tomorrow” from the March 11 meeting standpoint; the work session recorded the event time as 5:30 p.m. the following evening at Shadow Valley. Council members described the Shadow Valley appearance as a tabling/engagement event to display air-quality and sustainability projects derived from recent local initiatives.
Council members asked about expectations for attendance and participation; staff said the events typically involve tours, presentations and opportunities to speak with residents and partners but noted that formal council action was not required for the announced appearances.
