Resident urges county to raise, gravel Browns Gulch Road after traffic increase

A resident identified as Jeff asked the Granite County Board of Commissioners to evaluate Browns Gulch Road and add gravel to raise the road so water would run off rather than collect and turn the route into a mud hole.

Jeff said the road has seen more traffic since a nearby county road was closed by a court decision and described increased side-by-side and hunting-season use. "My request is simply just can we get some some maintenance on that road, get it lifted up and some gravel on top of that such that the water will run off of it instead of collecting within it," Jeff said.

Commissioners and staff discussed who had previously looked at the route and whether a county road supervisor, Paul, had inspected it. Commissioners said Paul would visit the site and that maintenance crews would address prioritized, maintained roads first. County staff said they would "try to get something up there" once higher-priority jobs are completed, and noted timing depends on other ongoing gravel and maintenance projects. Jeff said he may be willing to provide excavated dirt from private work to help raise the county road but that gravel would ultimately be needed to keep the surface from becoming muddy.

No formal vote or funding decision was made at the meeting. The item remained in the discussion stage: staff were directed to inspect and evaluate Browns Gulch Road and return with recommendations on timing and required materials.
