County approves proposal to install live camera at Rayleigh Field Airport; internet connectivity remains a recurring question

Granite County commissioners approved a proposal from Montana Aeronautics and partner groups to install a weather and airport-condition camera at Rayleigh Field Airport.
Donna Jones, airport board chair and airport manager, said the statewide program offers cameras to airports for roughly $2,000–$2,500 covering purchase and installation; the state will subsidize about half of the capital cost. The county will be responsible for recurring internet connectivity and ongoing maintenance.
Commissioners and the airport manager discussed options for obtaining a business internet account (the county already has a Blackfoot fiber presence nearby) and agreed staff should seek a bundled county account or group discount to minimize monthly costs. Commissioners asked airport staff to work with county IT and the vendor to confirm required bandwidth and a reliable connection before installing the camera.
The commission approved a motion to accept the proposal and directed staff to pursue connectivity details and a placement that will link the camera to the county website for public access. No additional county capital appropriation was recorded at the meeting.
