Joanna Lolasco of Mako Healthcare Trust reviewed the annual performance report and said, "The trustees landed on a 9.8% rate increase for this coming year." She told the commissioners that Mako's actuary looked at a 24-month claims window and the trustees selected the 9.8% increase to smooth rates while pharmacy cost savings from a new pharmacy benefit manager had reduced pressure on premiums.
Commissioners discussed contribution mechanics and plan options, including whether to keep several tiers of traditional plans and one or more high-deductible options. The board approved adding an HD $5,000 plan as an additional option and voted to increase the county contribution (the amount the county contributes toward employee premiums) to $15.78 per pay period (as presented by Mako staff).
The board noted practical steps for moving forward: Mako and county staff will host on-site open-enrollment meetings (scheduled for April 3), make the online enrollment portal available April 1, and offer Rocky Mountain Biometrics blood screening at the enrollment event. Mako staff said the trust will continue to run quarterly reporting and encouraged employees to participate in screenings to improve population health and reduce long-term costs.
