The Phillipsburg Skate Park Association updated Granite County commissioners on a community fundraising effort to construct a concrete skatepark in Zane Murphy Town Park.
Ruby Kickert, chair of the Phillipsburg Skate Park Association, told commissioners the group has raised about $250,000 toward a $300,000 goal and has a contract with Evergreen Skate Park to build the park beginning in September; construction is expected to take about two months. Kickert said the town of Phillipsburg will assume ownership, liability and maintenance after construction, while the association will continue to support programming such as lessons and equipment giveaways.
Kickert described park features under consideration: a multi‑use “pump track” suitable for scooters and bicycles and a concrete skate/BMX area intended to serve a wide range of ages and skill levels. She said the group is exploring additional amenities and aesthetic elements that reflect local history and could make the facility distinctive for visitors; commissioners suggested the association consult with the town and local school shop students on design ideas.
Kickert said a major donor has pledged a substantial grant and that the association plans to finalize remaining grants to meet the budget. The association and town plan to coordinate on access, parking and any site improvements required for construction.
No county financial commitment was requested at the meeting; commissioners noted county park funds and other local sources could be considered later if the association seeks additional match for amenities such as benches or a pavilion.
