After the resolution passed, several councilors volunteered for liaison roles: a councilor named Shane volunteered for Utilities, Councilor Hutchinson expressed interest in Public Safety, another councilor said they preferred Streets, and other councilors indicated interest in public facilities, the railroad and solid waste.
The resolution passed on a voice vote after a motion and second. Reed and staff said the mayor will be asked to finalize appointments at the next meeting and staff will relay volunteering preferences to the mayor.
Staff framed the change as a move to streamline the city's engagement with standing issues and to improve coordination between council and administration.
