Prineville council approves 2025 street-striping contract; staff discusses paint types and timing

Public Works Director Casey Kiser presented the 2025 street-striping project and recommended awarding the intent to award to Specialized Pavement Markings, the apparent low bidder at $74,506.
Kiser said the city follows standard DOT-approved specifications for striping material. “Yes. It has to be DOT approved… and it has to be water based now because of environmental concerns,” he said. Councilors asked about higher-performance options such as Durastripe that can be more reflective or longer lasting; Kiser said higher-quality systems can be considerably more expensive but may last two to three times longer in some uses and that striping timing should be coordinated with other street work.
The council moved and seconded a motion to approve the intent to award to Specialized Pavement Markings in the amount of $74,506; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
