Council approves purchase of submersible meters for water production wells

The Prineville City Council approved Resolution 1612 authorizing the purchase of new meters for the water treatment plant’s production wells.
Public Works Director Casey Kiser explained the city operates about 15 production wells that supply the water treatment plant and the aquifer storage and recovery process. Meters in vaults next to those wells provide essential flow and production data to the city’s SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. When high river levels periodically submerge the vaults, some existing meters have started to leak.
Staff identified a meter model designed to operate reliably when periodically submerged. The city used an informal solicitation process and selected MXB meters provided through regional supplier Ferguson Water Works as the lowest‑priced option meeting specifications. Council discussed whether remaining working meters could be kept as backups; staff said usable older meters will be retained as spares.
Kiser said the purchase covers meters for existing wells; meters for any future horizontal well will be included in that future contract. Council approved Resolution 1612 unanimously.
