Chairman Scott Brown told members May 13 that the mayor plans to recommend terminating the City of Fayetteville’s equipment committee, and he asked the members whether they concurred. Brown said the mayor and he agreed that, going forward, budgeted purchases and unbudgeted (expansion) items will be routed to the City Council rather than handled by the committee.
Brown said he would forward committee members’ concurrence to the mayor. Several members voiced support during the meeting; none objected on the record. Brown and others noted that procurement and review processes should continue in the interim and that staff will present expansion items to the City Council as required.
The committee did not take a formal vote to dissolve itself during the meeting. Brown said the mayor will bring a proposal to the City Council for final action.
Committee members also discussed process details, including the committee’s role in reviewing items above a financial threshold and the city’s intent to continue following procurement rules, state contracts where available, and obtaining multiple quotes when appropriate.
