Advisory panel to review grant-workshop slides in July; city confirms October training and technical assistance

Kelly Fulvart, community resources administrator for the City of Fayetteville's Community Resources Department, told the Community Development Advisory Panel that staff will present last year's subrecipient workshop slides in July and deliver the formal grant training in October, when applications are due.
"I would be more than happy in July to lay a little bit of the foundation," Fulvart said, and added that the formal training for application writing will be scheduled in October so it is fresh for panel members who will be scoring proposals.
Fulvart said the department offers technical assistance to prospective applicants 11 months a year and will help organizations determine eligibility and how federal requirements apply. "If it's not eligible, we can tell them why," she said, and noted the department has staff who can meet with applicants year-round.
Panel members discussed attending the grant workshop to better understand what applicants are taught and to calibrate scoring. Fulvart and members noted that applications are often closely scored and that limited funding, not poor applications, typically determines which projects receive awards.
Staff also announced CDBG in the Park will be held June 27 at Walker Park; the event was confirmed after a parks renovation schedule changed. Fulvart said flyers and reservation details will be circulated once finalized.
No formal action was taken; the items were recorded as informational and scheduling direction to staff to present the July introduction and the October training.
