County issues materials RFP for Emergency Management building; elevator inspections and capital planning discussed

Vernon County staff told the committee they have issued a request for proposals that asks lumber suppliers to modify an existing emergency management building plan, produce a building materials list and allow the county to use that materials list when soliciting contractor bids.
“We're allowing lumber suppliers to modify the existing plan as long as it meets state approval and create a building materials list. That's what the RFP is for,” a facilities staff member said. Staff expect to return with contractor bids next month.
Staff explained the county plans to bid individual trade packages so contractors can bid on single trades or multiple components. Depending on bid results and staffing, some work (HVAC, electrical) may be performed in‑house.
On building safety, staff reported problems with permit renewals for local elevators had been resolved: the onsite third‑party inspector completed inspections “yesterday” and at least one inspection report had been filed so the county could renew the permit; staff said paperwork processing is ongoing for the remaining units. The facilities update also noted summer maintenance planning (mowing and seasonal workers) and long‑range capital planning sessions scheduled for May 29 and June 12.
No formal action was taken; staff said they would have procurement documents and bid results for committee review next month.
