Board enters executive session on negotiation strategy after vote on conflict participation fails

The Jamestown Public School Board moved into an executive session on May 5 to discuss negotiation strategy after a failed preliminary vote on conflict participation.
Owen McKenna moved and Dan Tweeden seconded that the board enter executive session to discuss negotiation strategies; prior to that vote two board members declared conflicts described during the meeting as "in perpetuity" conflicts and a separate motion to permit those conflicted members to participate in the executive session required unanimous approval. The motion to allow the conflicted members to participate did not receive the required unanimous affirmation and therefore failed; the subsequent motion to enter the executive session carried and the board moved into closed session. The board identified the participants who would attend the executive session: board members Jamie Baer, Melissa Gleason, Heidi Larson, Owen McKenna, Jacob Meyer, Aaron Roberts, Jason Rohrer, Dan Tweeden and Steve Veldkamp, together with Superintendent Rob Wecht and Business Manager Christy Grounds.
Meeting rules noted that no final decisions would be made in the closed executive session and the board would reconvene in open session to complete remaining business.
