Board hears staff climate results; most survey items met growth goals but student voice lags
Summary
The superintendent reported results from staff climate questions linked to a district goal: most questions met targets or showed growth, but the district scored lowest on staff perception that students have opportunities to take part in decision-making.
The board received an update on district board-goal measurements tied to staff climate questions. The superintendent described results for six tracked questions and said the district met the stated growth goal on five of the six items.
The district uses a seven-point Likert instrument provided through a vendor (referred to in the presentation as "Bridal Network"). The first question, whether administrators involve staff in decision-making, was at 76% agreement districtwide; four of 11 schools met the 80% threshold and two more improved by more than 5%, which met the board’s goal requiring at least 50% of schools to either reach 80% or grow by 5%.
The highest-rated item was staff feeling they belong, at 86.21%, with nine of 11 schools above the 80% target. The district also reported 86% agreement on feeling safe; eight of 11 schools were above 80% on that item. The lowest item was whether students are given opportunity to take part in decision-making, with 65% agreement and only two of 11 schools above 80%; no schools increased by more than 5% on that question. Other items showed increases, including comfort discussing feelings with supervisors.
The superintendent noted school leadership teams, PLCs and intervention teams as avenues for staff input and thanked principals and teachers for improvement. Board members thanked administrators for their work and noted evaluation will be discussed at a separate meeting. The update was informational; no board action was taken.
