Henrico School Board approves closed-session certification, a religious-exemption request and petition to seek teacher license revocation

Board members formally moved into closed session under section 2.2-3711 of the Code of Virginia “for the discussion of matters covered under items a 1 and a 2 of section 2.2-3711 ... pertaining to the assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, demotion, salaries, disciplining, or resignation of specific school board employees, including a personnel hearing for employee case number 24-25-ED-2, and the request for a religious exemption from compulsory attendance that would involve the disclosure of information contained in scholastic records concerning individual students,” as read aloud on the record.
After the closed meeting, the board returned to open session and certified by recorded vote that only lawfully exempted matters described in the motion had been discussed. Following that certification, Dr. Paschall recommended approval of the religious-exemption request for student case 24-25-RED-9; the board approved the request after a motion moved by Mister Young and seconded by Miss Atkins. The board then approved a petition for licensure revocation in employee case 24-25-ED-2 and authorized the superintendent to forward the petition to the State Board of Education; that motion was moved by Mister Irving and seconded by Mister Young.
Other routine procedural actions recorded on the transcript included approval of the meeting agenda at the start of the session and the formal motions to enter and certify the closed session.
