Division combines middle- and high-school program-of-studies into one 6–12 document with new course options

Page County Public Schools presented a combined 6–12 program-of-studies with new courses and college/workforce links intended to help students plan from middle school through graduation.
Division staff showed the board a consolidated secondary program-of-studies for grades 6–12 and described several new course offerings and structural changes intended to improve student planning and graduation readiness.
Mr. Runyon and Ms. Heishman explained the division merged middle- and high-school program documents so students can begin academic career planning in sixth grade and follow course sequences through graduation. The new document is an active online file with an editable table of contents and embedded links to partner sites, the presenters said.
Ms. Heishman highlighted new offerings in the 2025–26 draft: honors English for grades 6–7 and honors math for grades 6–7 at principals’ requests; a Laurel Ridge Community College Future Educators Academy (a lottery-based program for juniors and seniors beginning fall 2025); a restored earth/environmental science course intended for juniors and seniors who struggled with biology so they may earn a verified science credit via the earth-science SOL; outdoor education options within the physical-education program; Theater IV (advanced acting and directing); and clearer placement of Laurel Ridge workforce programs under the tech-center section for HVAC, heavy-equipment operator training and other workforce pathways.
Presenters said scheduling is already under way: middle and high school staff have meeting dates to review the program with students and parents, and the tech center will visit feeder schools. The division’s stated goal is to finalize scheduling by late March to begin student scheduling.
Board members praised the combined document and the extended planning horizon for students. Staff said a draft link to the program-of-studies is available for board review and that the division will return to the board at the next meeting for any additional questions or action.
