Student representative outlines spring events, athletics and extracurricular highlights

The student representative delivered a spring update to the board highlighting upcoming events, recent extracurricular results and student trips.

The representative said the student council is planning several spring events, including a possible potluck‑style picnic when weather permits, and a community volleyball event called Volley into Spring scheduled for April 15 at 7 p.m. The update noted TriM (the music recognition organization) and NHS activities, and a brunch for student council members was held recently.

Athletics updates included varsity baseball with a 4‑3 record and an opponent (Southwest) with a 0‑5 record; one scheduled game was postponed because of rain. Track teams have competed in four meets so far and are preparing for district competition. Boys soccer had a 0‑3 record and girls soccer a 1‑1‑1 record as reported by the student representative; upcoming games were noted for mid‑April.

Music and performing arts items included an honor band performance involving selected students from Page and Shenandoah County and upcoming concerts. In speech and debate, the representative said two students placed at the state tournament: Maddie Maddox placed first in impromptu (and is a freshman) and Ray Hagen, a senior, placed second in extemporaneous speaking.

Other items reported included FCCLA and Spanish class field trips, a virtual job fair that simulated adult financial responsibilities for students, and that seniors were on a senior trip in Florida. The representative concluded the update by noting these activities and offering to answer questions.
