Council appoints Creighton Benson to Planning and Zoning Commission

The Excelsior Springs City Council approved Resolution 1550 on Feb. 18, 2025, appointing Creighton Benson to the city Planning and Zoning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Bob Curtis.
The appointment matters because it fills a commission seat whose term runs through Sept. 30, 2026, allowing the commission to proceed with its work on land-use and development reviews.
City Manager Molly McGovern introduced Benson’s application and said he applied to serve; the council then voted to approve Resolution 1550. After the resolution passed, Benson took the oath of office and was sworn in at the dais. Creighton Benson recited the oath: “I, Creighton Benson, do solemnly swear that you possess the qualifications prescribed for this office, that you abide by the Constitution of The United States, the laws of the State of Missouri, the ordinances of this city, and will faithfully demean yourself while in office.”
Council members voting “yes” on the appointment were Councilman McGovern, Councilman Rennie, Councilman Saint John, Mayor Pro Tem Speer and Mayor Spahn. The council did not record any “no” or abstain votes in the roll call that followed the motion.
The newly filled seat will expire Sept. 30, 2026, as stated during the appointment presentation. No other conditions or amendments were recorded in the council’s action.
Creighton Benson was invited to the dais for the swearing-in immediately after the vote; the city clerk administered the oath and council members welcomed him.
