La Marque — The La Marque City Council approved memoranda of understanding with neighboring cities, and separately adopted a resolution to suspend a utility rate filing by CenterPoint Energy for 45 days.
The council adopted Resolution R‑2025‑0017 to enter a memorandum of understanding with Hitchcock for a special response team and Resolution R‑2025‑0018 to enter a similar agreement with Santa Fe. The agreements were presented as mutual‑aid and regional coordination measures for public safety; the council approved the resolutions in separate votes, as state law requires separate records for each interlocal agreement.
On utilities, staff explained that CenterPoint Energy had filed to implement an interim rate adjustment tied to gas utility investments. City Attorney Gus summarized the item for the council and said the resolution would suspend CenterPoint’s proposed interim rate for 45 days so the city — and regulatory stakeholders — could review the filing. Staff noted the estimated impact of the proposed interim increase as approximately $2.88 per month per residential customer. The council approved the suspension resolution by voice vote.
Council members described the MOUs as cooperative steps to improve coordinated emergency response and emphasized the local nature of the agreements. The utility suspension mirrors other local actions that put rate filings on hold while city and regulatory staff review investment claims and proposed pass‑through costs.
All three items were approved in separate votes; the MOUs and the suspension will be transmitted to respective partner agencies and reflected in the city’s records and regulatory correspondence.
