Council approves agreement to allow Kearney High swim team to practice at Excelsior Springs pool

The Excelsior Springs City Council on May 5 approved Ordinance No. 25-05-01, an agreement permitting the Kearney R-I School District swim team to use the Excelsior Springs Community Center pool for practice during weekday time slots.
Parks and Recreation Director Nate Williams told the council the fall/winter practice block is typically slow for public use and the Kearney practice would occupy six lanes, leaving two lap lanes available for lap swimmers. Williams said the city does not plan to host Kearney home meets at this time and described the arrangement as a “win-win” that brings potential revenue and swim-team partnerships to the community center.
Council members asked whether the practice times would conflict with other pool users and were told the warm indoor pool and remaining lap lanes maintain public access during the practice block. The council approved the ordinance on second reading by unanimous roll-call vote (Rennie, McGovern, Speer, Mayor Pro Tem Saint John and Mayor Spahn voted yes).
