Roanoke County School Board receives progress reports on CTE center, Glen Cove and Condiff elementary renovations

At the March 6 work session, Roanoke County Schools staff and Skanska project managers updated the board on major construction projects, including the CTE center and the Glen Cove and Condiff elementary renovations.

Skanska's project manager reported that site work at the CTE center has advanced: rock removed from the building pad, mass grading completed on the pad, and Area C of the pad roughly 95% complete and ready for footer excavation once weather allows. Area D was being prepped for a slab pour scheduled the next Monday and Tuesday; Area A reported substantial progress on underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. The elevator pit concrete has been poured and foundation walls and electrical raceways were in place.

On the elementary projects, staff said Glen Cove and Condiff are undergoing both exterior civil work (waterline and drainage) and interior finishes. Presenters reported electrical devices, sprinkler and fire alarm work, ceiling tiles, painting and tile installation largely complete in many areas; one dining area slab for Condiff was scheduled to be poured the following morning. Casework and new windows were reported installed in several areas and furniture delivery dates were projected later in March.

Staff invited board members to a site tour of the CTE center at 1:30 p.m. the Wednesday after the work session. No board votes were taken during the update; presenters emphasized the continuing schedule milestones and production of photos and site video for board review.
